Step 1: Find Your Inspiration
Finding your inspiration means recognising various things and features that you find pleasing. These are the elements you want to incorporate into your space to create a space that matches your personality. Inspiration doesn’t always have to be readymade; instead, you can imagine things that can help you create a vibe that resonates with you. Maybe the yellow wall colour makes you happy or floral patterns suit your taste; whatever inspires you qualifies to this list.
To get started, you can browse through the internet or personally observe to get an idea of what inspires you and what doesn’t. Once you know the atmosphere you want to create, head towards the second step of gathering your ideas and concepts.
Step 2: Gather Your Ideas
Now start gathering ideas that can support the required ambience you are trying to achieve. Gather and come up with as many ideas as you want. Pinterest is one great platform for discovering a broad range of decors and interiors. You can even create a board for collecting all the posts that you find pleasing.
Another interesting way is going through different magazines and brochures while tearing out the ideas you love. If you want to simply browse through the internet, then don’t forget to take a screenshot of all the ideas that help build your dream space.
Step 3: The Big Investment Pieces
Big investment pieces are referred to the prominent or significant elements of your interiors. It can be a royal looking sofa or a grand old painting; the choice depends on your taste. As these are a major form of investment, it should not be selected in haste. Rather take your time in exploring the best interior pieces that can accentuate your space’s beauty without ever getting bored.
If you are confused about choosing one and don’t want to take a risk, then definitely neutral coloured elements would be suitable, but if you want to go for a particular piece, then be bold and go for it because your space should be ruled by your personality and not the rules. Some cool ideas include solid colour pops, intricate patterns, textures, floral prints, etc.
Step 4: The Accessories
Once you choose your focal pieces, it’s time to pep up your space with smaller elements. These are the components that make the room complete and help to achieve the look you are trying to get. Some examples of such elements are indoor plants, decor items, wall hangings, photo frames, showpieces, so on.
Remember, accessories should complement the big investment pieces, so choose wisely. Try to invest in pieces that are of value. Prepare a list of such accessories that you want to get for your space, and you are good to go.
Step 5: Collect Your Samples
Now that you have almost an idea of how your interior should look, it’s time to collect the samples. You can start by taking printouts of your sample images, cutting out the fabric you want to use, gathering samples of flooring, wall colours, furniture images, and then making a collection of them.
This collection is what goes into the making of your mood board. Therefore incorporate every little detail that’s possible to have an accurate idea of your dream interiors.
Step 6: Create Your Mood Board
Creating mood boards is a lovely way of bringing life to your ideas. If you know the image editing tools, it’s a bonus as now you can beautify your mood board, edit your images and create a more premium and polished version of it.
Another way is to pin all your ideas and pictures into a board. Grab everything that you want in your interiors and create a mood board by creatively arranging them. You can do this even on a sheet of paper.
Visualise Your Ideas!
So there you have the six simple steps of creating your own interiors. We would love to see how you get on. Go step by step, and you will end up with the perfect design plan for your home.
